Summary: 

The BH Materials Management Driver I performs a wide variety of supply chain activities, including all transportation functions associated with distributing goods and equipment to approximately eighty physical locations within Baystate Health.  These functions include preparing palletized and flat bed-staged supply orders, loading, transporting, unloading, and internally delivering goods & equipment to all sites within Baystate Health.  The incumbent also performs the receipt, breakdown, staging, and delivery of all incoming supply orders and equipment.  The Materials Driver I expedites incoming STAT orders, with delivery to internal BMC customers within established time parameters.  In addition, the Materials Driver I ensures the safe operation and maintenance of the BH Warehouse vehicle fleet & material management power equipment.

Job Responsibilities: 

1)

Operates warehouse delivery vehicles (10,000 lb to 26,000 lbs) in accordance with the Massachusetts State Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) and public safety laws.

Adheres to all Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations.  Completes appropriate regulatory training related to infection control and other mandated safety requirements (e.g., DPH, equipment training, etc.)

2)  Conducts and documents daily vehicle safety inspections for warehouse fleet vehicles as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR 3.96.11 & 396.13).  Reports any vehicle irregularities to the BH Manager of Warehouse Services for immediate resolution.

3) Transports and delivers routine and hazardous materials safely and effectively within the FMCRS regulation (CFR title 49 Transportation, parts 100 to 177) pertaining to shipments of hazardous materials up to but less than 1,000 pounds.

4) Complies with Department of Public Health (DPH) regulatory agency requirements, rules, and regulations regarding storage, handling, and accounting for controlled products

5)  Loads vehicle cargo box (26 ft), distributing weight evenly and maximizing cubic space for a safe and efficient delivery process.  Operates fully-loaded warehouse vehicles in a safe and effective manner to all delivery points within the BH system according to established delivery schedules.

7) Maintains vehicles and work area (loading docks) in a clean and orderly condition in accordance with facility and departmental policies and guidelines

8)  Consistently adheres to the Baystate Operating Principles and the Baystate Best Service Standards and maintains confidentiality as a BH supply chain team member.

Required Work Experience: 

Must possess a valid MA motor vehicle driver's license and an excellent DMV driver record. Experienced in driving up to 26' box trucks with heavy loads

Preferred Work Experience: 

2 years of Warehouse/Logistics driving background preferred. Handheld inventory technology experience

Skills and Competencies: 

Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact courteously, positively, and effectively with customers and coworkers are required.  Must possess the ability to make sound judgments, solve problems within the scope of responsibility, and perform various activities according to priority or emergent situations.  Must demonstrate initiative in completing tasks and requires the ability to work towards defined objectives with minimum supervision.

Intermediate computer skills and math skills are required.  The ability to perform steadily while dealing with external extreme weather conditions driving and delivering in the Baystate trucks & on the loading docks.
