Summary Description:

The Department of Healthcare Delivery and Population Sciences at Baystate Medical Center is looking to hire students (college or medical school) for a summer research position. The position is a fully grant funded per-diem position. The successful candidate will work with a faculty member of the Department of Healthcare and Population Sciences. All current funded projects aim to implement healthcare interventions to improve patient outcomes. This is an excellent opportunity for a student looking for hands-on experience with clinical research,  NIH grants, or looking to add new skills and challenge themselves. Successful candidates will bring their strengths to work with a supportive, skilled, and collaborative team to implement the ongoing clinical trials.

The successful candidate's duties may include helping the research team deliver the intervention, assess outcome data, and assist in preparing data for analysis. Additional duties may include recruting participants, conducting follow-up assessments, reviewing SAEs, attending implementation and recruitment meetings, and preparing documents for the IRB, or assisting the clinical research team. People in this role will have the opportunity to assist with promoting healthy behaviors for patients admitted to the hospital or in the outpaitent setting. Those with a research mindset may be offered opportunities to assist with preparing and publishing scientific manuscripts under the direction of the principal investigator and may be offered the opportunity to prepare and abstract and present research findings at a conference.

This per diem summer student research position is fully grant-funded. This role is based in Western Massachusetts at Baystate Medical Center.

Job Requirements:

1) Works with limited supervision and in accordance

2) Able to handle some non-routine situations, but Supervisor /Investigator available to handle most, and review progress of work

3) Performs variety of routine duties, tests, and procedures to assist investigators and other research staff in the implementation of the study intervention

4) Assists with recruitment, survey assessments, and follow up measures.  May support qualitative interviews and medical record reviews of enrolled participants.

5) Contributes to and maintains study and patient files in a highly organized manner.

6) Review serious adverse event reports of enrolled participants

7) Secures study and patient files to ensure confidentiality. Collect data according to structured guidelines. Records & Organizes results. Reports unusual findings to supervisor.

8) Perform actual study tasks without supervision. Perform study tasks in accordance with BMC policies and federal and state regulations.

Preferred Expereince:
Coursework in sciences, health, or data analysis, and patient care experience.
