Registered Nurse (RN) – Per Diem Float Pool | Western Massachusetts | Baystate Health 

Per Diem | Facility Float & System-Wide Float | Day & Night Shifts 

Position Overview 

Baystate Health is launching the Baystate Health Staffing Optimization Team (BHSOT), a new Registered Nurse (RN) float pool designed to give experienced nurses greater flexibility while supporting patient care needs across Western Massachusetts. 

As a Baystate Health Per Diem Float Pool RN, you will be hired into either a Facility Float or System-Wide Float position. Both opportunities offer flexibility and the ability to work across designated clinical areas based on your experience and clinical grouping. 

Choose Your Float Pool Opportunity 

  • Facility Float RNProvide nursing support across designated clinical areas within a specific Baystate Health facility. 

  • System-Wide Float RNProvide nursing support across designated clinical areas at multiple Baystate Health facilities. This option is designed for nurses who enjoy greater variety and are comfortable working across the health system. 

  • Per diem RNs receive up to $11 per hour per diem differential. Additional compensation differentials may vary based on the float assignment and applicable clinical grouping. 

Responsibilities 

As a Baystate Health Per Diem Float Pool Registered Nurse, you will: 

  • Provide safe, compassionate, evidence-based nursing care. 

  • Adapt quickly to different units, workflows, and patient populations. 

  • Collaborate with diverse nursing and interdisciplinary teams. 

  • Apply your clinical expertise across designated care settings. 

  • Support staffing needs while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety. 

  • Work in all areas included within your assigned clinical grouping.

Per Diem Schedule & Employment Options 

Per Diem positions are available for: 

  • Day shift 

  • Night shift 

  • Facility Float 

  • System-Wide Float 

  • Per diem RNs are expected to work a minimum of 4 shifts every 6 weeks, including at least 2 weekend shifts. Weekend shifts may include Sunday night. 

  • Per diem nurses will also be required to work designated holidays based on staffing needs and the requirements of their assignment. 

  • Specific shift lengths, schedules, and clinical assignments vary by position and clinical grouping. 

Locations & Clinical Areas 

Baystate Health Per Diem Float Pool RNs support designated clinical areas throughout Western Massachusetts. Depending on your position, you may work within one Baystate Health facility or across multiple Baystate Health facilities. 

Clinical groupings may include: 

  • Medical/Surgical 

  • Telemetry 

  • Observation 

  • Pediatrics 

  • Emergency Department 

  • Intensive Care 

  • Operating Room 

  • Women's Services 

  • Respiratory 

  • Other designated clinical areas 

BHSOT positions are structured around defined clinical groupings. Nurses must be able to work in all areas included within their assigned grouping. 

Registered Nurse Qualifications 

The ideal Per Diem Float Pool RN is an experienced clinician who is comfortable adapting to different care environments and collaborating with a variety of nursing teams. 

Required: 

  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license. 

  • At least two years of clinical nursing experience. 

  • Clinical nursing experience appropriate to the applicable clinical grouping. 

  • Ability and willingness to work across all areas within the assigned clinical grouping. 

  • Ability to meet the scheduling requirements of a per diem position. 

  • Specific experience requirements may vary by clinical grouping and position. 

Compensation & Benefits 

Per Diem Registered Nurses receive up to $11 per hour per diem differential, in addition to applicable base compensation and eligible shift differentials. 

Additional premium pay programs may apply when eligibility requirements are met. 

Benefits eligibility varies based on employment status and applicable position.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support – American Heart Association, Basic Life Support – American Heart Association, Pediatric Advanced Life Support – American Heart Association, Registered Nurse – State of Massachusetts

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

Minimum – Midpoint – Maximum

$41.82 – $54.06 – $66.30
