BAYSTATE HEALTH STAFFING OPTIMIZATION TEAM (BHSOT)
A different way to work at Baystate Health.
Premium pay for your flexibility.
The Baystate Health Staffing Optimization Team (BHSOT), also known as our float pool, is a different way to approach your work at Baystate Health. Bring your clinical skills across our hospitals and clinical departments, choose your commitment, and earn the highest shift differentials we offer, with no on-call requirement, ever.
WHAT IS BHSOT?
One team. Many clinical areas. A different way to work.
The Baystate Health Staffing Optimization Team (BHSOT), also known as our float pool, is a different way to approach your work arrangement at Baystate Health. It’s a team of nurses, techs and clinical support staff who are deployed across clinical departments and hospitals wherever patient care needs are greatest. Instead of being tied to a single clinical department, you build broad experience, work a schedule that fits your life, and earn a premium for the versatility you bring.
You decide how you want to participate. Opt for Per Diem to choose a higher hourly rate instead of a traditional benefits package, with a lighter shift commitment. Budgeted members take a benefit-eligible position (0.6 to 0.9 FTE) with a steady differential. Either way, there’s no on call requirement, and your assignments are coordinated for you by a dedicated BHSOT Manager.

HOW BHSOT WORKS
Facility or System: choose your reach
BHSOT offers two ways to join: a Facility option within one hospital, or a System option across all of them. Both share the same promise: flexible scheduling and no on call. Assignments are matched to your experience and demonstrated clinical competencies.
Facility Option
Assigned within one hospital
- Where: Multiple clinical departments within one hospital (at least two)
- Use: Just-in-time staffing
- Commitment: 4 or 8 per 6-week schedule
- Weekends: 2 to 4 per 6-week schedule
- Assignments: Based on your clinical competencies
System Option
Deployed across all hospitals
- Where: All Baystate hospitals & clinical departments
- Use: Just-in-time, system-wide
- Commitment: 4 or 8 per 6-week schedule
- Weekends: 2 to 4 per 6-week schedule
- Assignments: Based on your clinical competencies
How assignments work
Matched to you
- You’re assigned and deployed based on your experience and demonstrated competencies.
- You won’t be placed outside your scope. A med/surg nurse isn’t sent to the ED.
- Depending on program structure, you may identify or decline particular clinical groupings.
- A recruiter helps match you to the right clinical areas.
RATES & DIFFERENTIALS
Premium differential by role & option
BHSOT members earn a shift differential on top of their base hourly rate. The rates below are the per-hour premiums added. A wider reach and a higher commitment earn more.
| Role | Facility Option (one hospital) | System Option (all hospitals) | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Per Diem A | Per Diem B | Budgeted | Per Diem A | Per Diem B | Budgeted | |
| NursingRegistered Nurses · Grades 25, 35, 55+ | $9.30 | $11.10 | $3.00 | $11.10 | $12.90 | $4.10 |

| Clinical SupportPatient Care Techs & support staff · Grades 40 to 46 | $5.30 | $6.30 | $2.10 | $6.40 | $7.40 | $3.20 |
All figures are shift differentials added to base hourly pay, per the FY2026 BHSOT structure. Per Diem A and B differ by shift commitment (4 vs. 8 shifts per 6-week schedule) and weekend and holiday requirements. Budgeted positions carry a lower differential but are benefits-eligible. Final placement and rate are confirmed with your recruiter.
