Environmental Health and Safety Professional
Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

Summary:
Under the direction of the Safety Director, provides environmental management and safety services for Safety program at Baystate Medical Center and Springfield based BHS entities. Adheres to corporate and department compliance policies, and any all applicable laws and regulations.
The Environmental, Health and Safety Professional is a member of the Safety Department and reports to the Safety Director. The incumbent is expected to provide on-call services to the corporation on a monthly rotating basis with other professionals in the department.
The incumbent plans and implements methods to address potential environmental and safety issues consistent with the needs and goals of BMC.
Specific areas of responsibility may include, but are not limited to, construction safety, laboratory safety and chemical hygiene, emergency response activities, industrial hygiene, safety education, and environmental management.
The Environmental, Health and Safety Professional is responsible for the supervision of contract personnel
Job Responsibilities:
1) Will coordinate environmental issues at BMC, including but not limited to the waste management program, including shipments, storage inspections and recordkeeping; annual hazardous waste generator reports; Tier II forms; and, air/wastewater/recycling permits and compliance documentation.
2) Participate in accident investigations, life safety/hazard surveillance, construction safety and design review, personal protective equipment assessments
3) Assist the Safety Director and Chairman of the BMC Emergency Management Committee by coordinating the emergency response activities at BMC
4) Perform lab safety activities at PVLSI, including pre-occupancy screening of new tenants; safety and environmental rounds, and weekly emergency shower testing (coordinate or perform)
5) Serve as member of the Baystate Medical Center Safety Committee and other related committees as needed
6) Research new equipment, training materials and facility upgrades as requested
7) Function in a consulting role to other BH entities as needed; and, supervise contract personnel
Required Work Experience:
1) Three to five years experience in environmental management and safety

2) The ability to develop strategies to meet the compliance objectives through education, skills development and program implementation
3) On an annual basis complete all required safety education including on line Baystate Health programs and annual hazardous waste refresher training
4) Attach Baystate transcript and hazardous waste certificate and submit with Self Assessment
5) At least once during each calendar year, present the Safety briefing to employees at New Employee Orientation
6) Complete at least one Work Environment Survey which includes electronic monitoring of physical conditions, industrial hygiene sampling for chemical constituents, preparation of laboratory submittal paperwork and preparation of the final report
