Child Life Specialist Pediatric Emergency Department

Baystate Health is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Child Life Specialist I to join our Child Life Services team. In this role, you will provide developmentally appropriate, child life focused care to pediatric patients and their families in the Pediatric Emergency Department.

Working collaboratively with the healthcare team, you will deliver individualized therapeutic interventions that support coping, education, and emotional well-being throughout the patient’s care experience.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

  • Child Life Specialists work closely with the healthcare team to promote positive experiences and reduce fear and anxiety associated with medical care.
  • Services include:
    •  Procedural preparation
    •  Bedside and playroom activities that support growth and development
    • Emotional support for families and siblings
    • Special events and celebrations
    • Coping support during treatments and procedures.
    • Bereavement support to families and siblings when needed.
  • Isabela is Baystate Children’s Hospitals first ever facility dog who provides animal-assisted therapy to pediatric patients, their families, and staff members.

SCHEDULE:

  • Full Time 11:30 AM- 11:30 PM 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend and rotating holidays
  • Location: Baystate Medical Center Springfield

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Child Life or a related field required
  • 600 hours Child Life Specialist Internship required, and must meet all other requirements to sit for the Child Life Specialist Certification exam. Must achieve certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist through the Association of Child Life Professionals preferred
  •  1+ years of experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Previous experience in an Inpatient setting, Pediatric Critical Care setting and Emergency setting preferred
  • CPR through American Heart Association BLS Provider required

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

Minimum – Midpoint – Maximum

$56,430.00 – $64,875.00 – $76,710.00
