Service Coordinator – Sterile Processing
Full Time – 40 Hours per Week
Second Shift: 11a-7:30pm
Position Summary
Baystate Health is seeking an experienced and motivated Service Coordinator – Sterile Processing to join our team. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), second-shift position (11a-7:30pm).
The Service Coordinator meets and exceeds the competencies of Sterile Processing Technician Levels I, II, and III. This role demonstrates expert knowledge and application of Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards and serves as a clinical and operational leader within the department.
The Coordinator provides mentorship and education to technicians, functions in the charge role as needed, and actively participates in quality assessment and performance improvement initiatives aligned with Baystate Health’s mission and standards. This role maintains working knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements including:

Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Technical Expertise
-
Demonstrate advanced knowledge and application of sterilization standards and sterile processing best practices.

Maintain 100% competency of required skills across assigned service areas.

Serve in the charge role and assume on-call responsibilities as needed.
Leadership & Staff Development
-
Mentor and precept Sterile Processing Technicians (Levels I, II, III).

Monitor, enforce, and model compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
-
Develop and deliver educational in-services through independent research and continuing study.

Maintain current knowledge of surgical specialties, emerging technologies, and evolving surgical trends.
Operational Oversight
-
Establish work priorities and coordinate workflow to meet departmental demands.

Organize and assign staff responsibilities to ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Adjust workflow to maximize productivity and quality outcomes.
Quality & Compliance
-
Maintain and audit daily documentation for decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and equipment maintenance.

Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions (sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, washer/decontaminators).

Address documentation deficiencies through corrective action and staff education.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and proactively identify service enhancement opportunities.
Collaboration & Communication

Collaborate with Operating Room service leads regarding purchasing needs, par level adjustments, and equipment utilization.

Communicate operational updates and procedural changes through verbal reports, shift communication, email, and department tools.

Demonstrate sound judgment, critical thinking, and professional communication in resolving issues.

Required Experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience as a Surgical Technologist and/or advanced sterile processing experience

Demonstrated leadership experience

Strong knowledge of operating room procedures and instrumentation
