Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician Specialist – Infusion, under the supervision of the BH Pharmacy Business Operations Manager, works with pharmacists to ensure that patients meet all the necessary requirements prior to their scheduled appointment. Serving as one of the direct connection points between the infusion service line and prescribers, the Pharmacy Technician Specialist – Infusion must have great attention to detail, excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following: Transcribe patient medication orders into Electronic Medical Record (EMR), contact prescribers and office staff via multiple methods to ensure timely receipt of all documents/requirements; coordinate with specialty pharmacies on the delivery, unpackaging, documenting, labeling and organization of specialty medications; keeping patient owned inventory organized and separated from general pharmacy stock; involved with the medication ordering when supplied by the hospital; cross trained to provide coverage/support in patient scheduling and insurance verification; supports all infusion suites within the Regional Infusion Program.
Job Responsibilities

Transcribe patient medication orders into Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for one-time and recurring accounts for all infusion locations in the regional infusion program.

Communicate daily with providers and/or their office staff via phone/email/CIS/Tiger to request necessary information (H&P, medication orders, tests results and other documents). Ensure all documents are received prior to patient's scheduled appointment in an infusion suite.

Assist with requirements of medications with REMS

Develop and maintain positive relationships with infusion suite staff, current and potential providers (internal and external), pharmacy staff and partner departments.

Procure medication for patients from pharmacy wholesaler and arrange delivery from specialty pharmacies. Follow established patient owned medication process to ensure deliveries are received on time for every patient's appointment.

Assists with all aspects of maintaining adequate pharmacy inventory for all infusion areas, including establishing par levels, maintaining Pyxis inventory, and loading/unloading of medications. Prepare daily pre-mix list and monitor use and compliance with process.

In partnership with finance/revenue/accounting departments, provide necessary clinical and administrative support to optimize financial outcomes, minimize denials, and provide supportive clinical documentation for insurance appeals

Perform general clerical duties for the department and other duties as assigned.

Work with pharmacy leadership to continuously identify and evaluate all processes for improvement and help drive implementation of change throughout the entire regional infusion program

Maintain advanced knowledge of software and equipment used for their area of expertise. Provide input and recommendations for use of new technology and equipment where appropriate.

Provide coverage/support for scheduling patients using appropriate scheduling software and assist with insurance verifications as requested.

Required Education/Experience

GED or HiSET

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential

2 years pharmacy experience; Sterile compounding, customer service
Preferred Education/Experience

High School Diploma

Certifications:
Registered Pharmacy – Pharmacy Technician Certification Board

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
