Baystate Pediatric Palliative Care is looking for a Massage Therapist to join the growing team!

The Pediatric Palliative Care Massage Therapist plays an integral part to the Pediatric Palliative Home Care program, which is made up of a dedicated, compassionate team of experienced caregivers that work closely with each family to ease the symptoms, pain, and stress of serious illnesses.

Palliative Care teams work with the families of a child facing an illness that limits quality of life or significantly lowers the normal life expectancy to determine the best way forward. 

The goal is to improve quality of life for the child and family from the comfort of their own home.

Schedule:

  • Part-time, 24 hours per week
  • (3) 8-hour shifts Monday thru Friday (flexible)
  • Mandatory meeting on Thursdays from 11am-1pm

Location:

  • This position requires travel – we service patients all throughout Western Massachusetts.
  • Mileage reimbursement provided
  • Our home base is located at 280 Chestnut St Springfield, MA

Summary: 

The massage therapist is a registered/licensed professional who has the responsibility, accountability and authority for providing coordinated, comprehensive care in accordance with the objectives, policies, standards and procedures of Baystate Visiting Nurse and Hospice.

Job Responsibilities: 

1) Develops a plan of care which meets the patient's needs and reflects achievable, measurable and expected outcomes. Assesses family dynamics, when appropriate, as it concerns patients.

2) Understands and complies with the rules and regulations governing home health care.

3) Demonstrates knowledge of Agency standards governing massage therapy and communicates them to others. Coordinates care with other disciplines and agencies. Communicates care with team members, other disciplines, patients and their families and the QA/Hospice Supervisor.

4) Completes and submits paperwork such as plan of care, medical update, time logs, and weekly summaries in the time frame established by the Agency. Writes documentation in a complete manner that is reflective of al skilled care provided.

5) Participates in multi-disciplinary case conferences and identifies appropriate cases for consultation and review.

6) Utilizes good interpersonal communication skills with patients and their families, physicians, providers and other agencies.

7) Teaches patients/families/caregivers the principles of the treatments provided.

8) Responds to referrals in a timely fashion and deals with problems in order of priority. Shows flexibility and creativity in responding to referral and patient needs created by emergencies, scheduling changes and adverse conditions.

9) Analyzes a situation and develops an appropriate plan.

10) Demonstrates an organized approach to time and tasks. Sets priorities in work, separates emergency, unexpected crisis interventions from regular work flow and completes assignments within required timeframe with minimal supervision or need for follow up.

11) Work assignments reflect completeness, attention to detail and 95% accuracy.

12) Knows location and proper use of fire equipment, follows emergency procedures and reports hazardous, unsafe environmental conditions to appropriate person or department.

13) Establishes productive working relationships with Agency staff and demonstrates understanding of their patient care roles and functions, utilizing proper channels of communication with Agency staff.

14) Orients new staff to the role of Massage Therapist.

15) Supports Agency mission by adhering to standards of practice related to social work and bereavement. Attends Agency meetings as required, including staff meetings and clinical meetings.

16) Maintains CEUs required for licensure and attends educational programs to maintain or increase knowledge in present position, e.g. seminars and workshops.

17) Participates in QA and Improvement activities and continually evaluates patients and utilizes feedback from quality studies in improving own practice.

18) Maintains confidentiality.

19) Attends mandatory in-services per Agency policy, e.g. Safety Modules, Hazardous Materials.

20) Complies with annual and/or other employee health requirements.

Required Work Experience: 

1) 1 year of experience

2)  Knowledge with the philosophy and programs of home health agencies

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT)

  • Valid drivers license

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

Minimum – Midpoint – Maximum

$27.13 – $31.19 – $36.88
