Baystate Health is seeking a Operations Associate (OA) to join our Oncology Department team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our Oncology Department team provides care to a diverse adult patient population, working closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compassionate, high-quality care. 

Operations Associate Responsibilities Include:

  • Bed Management & Patient Flow: Coordinates admissions, discharges, and transfers; tracks bed availability and patient status; communicates updates with nursing, case management, physicians, and other departments to support efficient patient throughput.
  • Administrative & Clinical Team Support: Provides administrative support to nurses, hospitalists, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams; assists with rounds, consults, follow-up appointments, staffing assignments, schedules, and unit-specific projects.
  • Communication & Coordination: Facilitates timely communication among patients, families, clinical staff, physicians, and ancillary departments; answers and directs calls, relays messages, coordinates priority services, and provides accurate shift handoffs.
  • Medical Records & Documentation: Maintains accurate and organized patient records, prepares documentation for admissions, transfers, and discharges, obtains required signatures, maintains unit logs, and ensures records are appropriately processed and submitted.
  • Patient & Family Support: Welcomes and orients patients and families to the unit, answers routine questions, provides appropriate information, and directs concerns to the appropriate healthcare team member.
  • Unit Operations & Resource Management: Supports daily unit operations through staffing coordination, supply inventory and ordering, charge entry, scheduling, and retrieval of medications, blood products, supplies, and other resources as needed.
  • Systems & Technology: Accurately utilizes required clinical, administrative, staffing, and patient-flow systems to maintain patient information, documentation, scheduling, and departmental operations.
  • Patient Safety & Emergency Response: Maintains knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment, promptly initiates appropriate emergency response processes, and mobilizes necessary support personnel as directed.

  • Job Type: Per Diem
  • Shift: Evening, 7:30pm-11:30pm
  • Weekend Requirement: Rotating Weekends
  • Holiday Requirements: Rotating Holidays

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

Minimum – Midpoint – Maximum

$17.01 – $20.80 – $25.87
