Health New England (HNE) is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a dynamic healthcare organization in Springfield, MA.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Staff Accountant contributes to general ledger activities, reconciliations, journal entries, account analysis, financial reporting, and compliance activities. You’ll work closely with members of the Accounting team to investigate discrepancies, resolve accounting questions, maintain accurate documentation, and support timely month-end and year-end processes.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Support the Hospital Group’s cash reconciliation process by compiling and reviewing cash transactions.
- Prepare routine journal entries to correct, reclassify, and record financial transactions.
- Monitor cost allocations for media services, pharmacy, dietary, printing, photocopying, and intercompany charges.
- Prepare and maintain monthly, quarterly, and annual account analyses and schedules to support financial reporting and year-end audit activities.
- Assist with monthly expense and operating revenue variance analysis.
- Prepare miscellaneous billings for non-patient accounts receivable and monitor outstanding balances.
- Assist with the preparation of federal and state informational tax returns and other required compliance reports.
- Prepare and maintain reconciliation schedules and supporting workpapers, including documentation of outstanding items and follow-up activity.
- Assist with the annual Unclaimed Property Report filing with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Maintain an organized repository of general ledger and sub-ledger transactional support and documentation.
- Collaborate with Accounting team members to research issues, resolve discrepancies, and problem-solve accounting questions.
- Support other accounting activities and projects as needed.

- Monday through Friday
- No weekends, no holidays

- Springfield, MA
- Hybrid work opportunity – 3 days a week on-site required – candidate must live in MA or CT
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- At least 2 years of accounting experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and database software.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to analyze financial information, identify discrepancies, and follow issues through to resolution.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- A willingness to learn, take on new responsibilities, and continue developing as an accounting professional.

Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
