The Department of Healthcare Delivery and Population Sciences is seeking a Research Exercise Physiologist for three NIH-funded clinical trials.

This position is responsible for providing patients enrolled in the PACE SETTER clinical trial with cardiac rehabilitation services with supervised exercise, progressive ECG monitored activity, education regarding cardiac event, disease management, risk factors, lifestyle modification and psycho-social support. Support the STOP-NPT3 clinical trial, become a certified tobacco treatment specialist and use these skills to provide, cognitive and behavioral strategies to hospitalized cardio-pulmonary patients. Assist with recruitment and functional assessment completion of hospitalized patients for an Ambulation clinical trial. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess the patient’s age specific needs and age specific treatments and care.

Responsibilities will include:
-Conducts thorough assessments and monitors inpatient and outpatient patients enrolled in the NIH clinical trials.
-Develops exercise prescriptions and individual treatment plans specific to patient needs. The
comprehensive plan will include education, exercise, behavior change and counseling.
-Monitoring progress and response to exercise via assessment of blood pressure, ECG, perceived
exertion and patient symptoms. Directs care accordingly

-Provide tobacco treatment counseling to hospitalized patients who smoke

-Monitor text messages and survey response of participants enrolled in the clinical trials

-Completing 6MWT, SPPB, and functional assessment tests
-Maintains accurate patient program data and assists in outcomes measurement/management.

-Record study data onto case report forms and transcribe into REDCap
-Performs other research duties as necessary.

Qualifications:
ACSM CES Preferred; ACSM RCEP Preferred.
Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field is required; Masters
preferred; PhD/Post-Doc welcome.
1 to 3 years clinical setting outpatient and inpatient.
Research education and/or experience is strongly preferred.

Skills:
ECG Interpretation, Arrhythmia recognition. Able to work independently/autonomously and handle high volume and multiple task assignments in an organized fashion. Exceptional patient and customer serviceskills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Displays enthusiasm and confidence with an ability to motivate self and others. Desire to learn new skills aimed at improving healthcare delivery.
