Pulmonary Nurse Clinician provides education, training, and support to patients and families requiring pulmonary care. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other care professionals to maximize the patient's quality of life through pulmonary rehabilitation. Provides pulmonary education to members of the multidisciplinary team. Assess patients to ensure that the appropriate pulmonary equipment is ordered and used to optimize patient's outcome. Actively participates in individualized plan of care for patient in collaboration with multidisciplinary team which may include;   

  • Evaluation and training in the use of inhalers, supplemental oxygen and home respiratory equipment, (e.g. nebulizers, aerosols, and oxygen systems)
  • Education and application of breathing exercises and retraining.
  • Assessment, instruction, and reassessment in airway clearance methods suitable for the patients and their family members (e.g. effective coughing, incentive spirometry, chest physiotherapy, flutter valve, Acapella, and ABI Vest System).
  • Assessment and management of patients in pulmonary exercise program which focuses on the care of the pulmonary patient in the outpatient setting.
  • Assessment and management of patients on mechanical ventilation.
  • Assessment, education, and instruction to empower patients and their families to self manage artificial airways.
  • Instructions pre-operatively and post-operatively follow up to surgical patients at risk for pulmonary complications.


  • MA RN license and BLS CPR
  • 3-5 years Pulmonary nursing experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication

Required Work Experience: 

  • Massachusetts license as an RN and BLS CPR certified.
  • 3-5 years Pulmonary nursing experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment & handle multiple tasks/priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have competency in delivering exceptional nursing care and have proven success in partnering with both physicians and staff

Bachelor of Science: Nursing, Diploma in Nursing (Required)


Basic Life Support – American Heart Association, Certified Clinical Transport Nurse – American Board for Transplant Certification, Certified Nephrology Nurse – Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission, Registered Nurse – State of Massachusetts
