Under the direction of the Supervisor of Engineering or designee, the physical plant operator is responsible for safely performing a combination of functions on an assigned shift including, but not limited to, operating, maintaining all steam and chilled water production and distribution system equipment. The Physical Plant Operator will operate, maintain and take charge of high pressure steam boilers in accordance with MGL Chapter 146. Physical Plant Operator will operate and maintain low pressure heating boilers, chillers, cooling towers, distribution system components and HVAC system as needed. Physical Plant Operator will utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to continuously update, develop and perform preventive maintenance work orders. Physical Plant Operator will be responsible to maintain chemical treatment program.
Comfortable working independently. Must be able to operate high pressure steam boiler, hearting boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and axillary equipment safely and efficiently. Must understand the elements of the water treatments as it pertains to steam boilers. Must be able to do minor repairs as needed. Must be self-motivated and a self-starter.
