Full Time / Part Time: Full-Time
Provides direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. Provides for the personal care and comfort of psychiatric patients. Provides a safe, clean environment. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Communicates with treatment team as appropriate about changes in patients condition. Able to perform general duties with adequate supervision.
1) Performs all aspects of job in an environment that optimizes patient/staff safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Interacts professionally with patient/family/staff and involves patient/family/staff. Treats patients, families, staff, and visitors with respect and dignity. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, peers, and other health providers.
2) Participates actively in problem solving within the department/between departments. Communicates with supervisors and peers. Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationship with other departments. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and functions under stressful situations.
3) Utilizes initiative, strives to maintain steady level of productivity, self-motivation and manages activity and time.
4) Fosters a positive customer service culture. Orients patients to the unit, takes admission vital signs, intake and output. Notifies RN of any changes. Provides general nursing care, i.e., transferring patients, assisting with ADL's.
5) Continuously observes patients' behavior, mental status and activities, notifies RN of any changes or unusual occurrences. Demonstrates the ability to identify behaviors that require intervention.
6) Escorts patient when leaving the unit for activities and scheduled tests. Able to perform patient safety checks at scheduled times, documents appropriately.
7) Responsible for one-on-one observation for high risk patients. Able to assist with restraining a patient.
8) Assists with therapeutic groups under the direction of the RN. Participates in patient care conferences.
9) Communicates appropriately and clearly to the Clinical Director of Nursing, RN's and Physicians.
10) Demonstrates the ability to set limits for patients and other de-escalation techniques.
11) Documentation meets current standards and policies.
12) Maintains PAR levels for supplies for the unit.
13) Answers the telephone in a professional manner, directs calls appropriately, takes messages.
14) Operates equipment safely and correctly.
15) Demonstrates the ability to be organized and flexible, acts appropriately in stressful/emergency situations.
16) Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Required Work Experience:
Preferred Work Experience:
1) 1 year of nursing home or acute care experience
Skills and Competencies:
1) Basic computer knowledge
2) Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures, sterile technique and medical terminology
3) Excellent interpersonal skills
4) Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing
5) Other languages preferred
