Summary:
The New Graduate RN Ambulatory Residency nurse under the supervision of the practice nursing leadership, manager, and preceptor will be responsible the provision of nursing care to patients in accordance with current BH Standards of Care. Administers and monitors patient response to therapeutic interventions. The New Graduate RN will demonstrates knowledge and utilizes the nursing process as it relates to patients and families; is accountable for professional nursing practice; collaborates with health team members, patients/families in the provision of care; delegates to and provides direct supervision to other health team members as appropriate in the implementation of the patient care plan; acts as an advocate for patients/families/significant others and practices within accepted ethical and legal parameters of nursing.
New Graduate RN practicing at this level are in a new stage of skill development and have limited experience in clinical and practice situations. Guidance is needed to move to early independent practice. This description covers the essential functions of the position. Incumbent is expected to perform similar and related duties as assigned. The RN Leadership/Manager/Director is responsible for ensuring that the RN consistently meets the necessary behaviors.
Job Requirements:
1) Clinical Decision Making -Under the supervision of a nurse preceptor, RN, or RN Leadership:
Conducts age appropriate clinical assessment, asks appropriate questions and consults with preceptor, providers and others as necessary.
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize patient care duties and to perform clinical tasks competently.
Demonstrates sound clinical judgment in assessing patients' health care needs.
Demonstrates competencies to perform clinical tasks.
Documents each patient encounter in a timely manner, including assessment, care given during the visit, patient response and plan(s) for future intervention.
Tracks and reviews lab and diagnostic results, notifying the provider of critical and abnormal results within the appropriate time frame.
Assists in the processing of prescription renewal requests according to policies and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
2) Clinical Practice Innovation -Assists with practice process improvement through participation/contribution on teams, data collection and other efforts to increase efficiency, productivity and quality.
3) Nurse Patient Family Relationship – Develops cultural competence working with a diverse patient population Demonstrates a sensitive non-judgmental attitude and is tactful in handling difficult situations. Maintains confidentiality. Asks for guidance when faced with new situations.
4) Patient Family Education and Health Care Transition Management
Identifies resources and educational materials in the patient’s language preference, educational level, media preference and interest. Assesses patient’s readiness to learn, education needs and potential barriers in conjunction with nurse preceptor and providers. Provides appropriate one-on-one education and materials. Offers support and makes appropriate referrals for education; e.g. diabetes education, nutrition, etc.
5) Health Care Team Relationships Focuses on developing relationships within the practice and healthcare team. Cooperatively interacts within the health care team to support and contribute to the shared patient/family focused care goals. Assists in managing the flow of patient care sessions through effective interactions with team/staff members. Demonstrates behaviors based on BH Operating Principles and Service Standards.
6) Communication -Develops ability to actively listen to patients, customers and fellow staff. Acknowledges what has been communicated and demonstrates understanding and interest through verbalization and use of body language. Maintains calm open honest approach. Projects positive image of BH. Demonstrates belief in the value of each person even during busy times.
7) Maintains annual mandatory education requirements, which include emergency skills and unit based competencies, Identifies needs for continued growth and development
8) Leadership -Accepts responsibility for own actions and views new assignments as opportunity to develop skill and practice.

Experience in practice specialty or related area preferred.
