Baystate Health, western Massachusetts’s premier healthcare provider, and home to Baystate Medical Center (BMC), is hiring for a Manager of Spiritual Services.

Under the direction of the Chief Patient Experience Officer you will be responsible for the overall management of spiritual care and Clinical Pastoral Education at Baystate Medical Center within the Patient Experience. Provides leadership for the development, coordination, and oversight of spiritual care programs at Baystate Noble, Baystate Wing, and Baystate Franklin as well as health centers and practices throughout the health system as needed.

What you will do:

  • Responsible for the management and oversight of all personnel issues including hiring, evaluations, transfers, promotions, wage recommendations, scheduling, discipline, grievances, educational opportunities, and orientation.
  • Responsible for the quality of the provision of spiritual care as evidenced by staff supervision activities and QA/QI activities.
  • Addresses matters concerning Spiritual Care. Conducts staff meetings at least monthly to communicate to department staff issues and information related to administrative or clinical practice.
  • Develops and implements policies, standards, and procedures that support the mission and vision of Baystate Health-related to Spiritual Care provision and education at BMC, BNH, BWH, and BFMC.
  • Participates in the management team of the Office of Patient Experience. Acts as a spiritual care resource to managers and senior leaders at Baystate Medical Center, Baystate Noble, Baystate Wing, and Baystate Franklin as needed.
  • Responsible for oversight of the Hospital-Wide Bereavement Program including reviewing annually relevant end-of-life and bereavement care policies and services of remembrance for families and staff. Collaborates with other clinicians in end-of-life care and bereavement support for patients, families, and staff.
  • Functions as interfaith spiritual care representative to the local/regional spiritual and professional communities to promote inclusive bereavement care, advanced care planning,  the Clinical Pastoral Education programs, and other related health care issues relevant to the communities served by Baystate Medical Center and the community hospitals associated with Baystate Health. 
  • Responsible for the Clinical Pastoral Education Program: annual review and update of all policies, curriculum design, maintaining accreditation status, recruiting students, and conducting at least two units of Level I/II Clinical Pastoral Education. Provides leadership of quarterly meetings with the Professional Advisory Group and responds to all CPE-related complaints, grievances, and evaluation processes. Maintains regular contact with accrediting and certifying associations for professional updates and Quality Control. Coordinates and oversees  CPE clinical placements at BNH, BWH, BFMC, and community or regional health care facilities contracted with the BMC CPE program.

SCHEDULE:

  • Location: Baystate Medical Center Springfield

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s Degree Theology or Religious Education/Studies
  • Certification with the Association of Professional Chaplains and certification as a Certified Clinical Pastoral Education Educator through the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, and ordination or commissioning from a recognized religious organization
  • 2-3 years in a spiritual care leadership position in a health care organization preferred
  • Chaplin by APC, NACC, or NAJC required
  • ACPE Certified Educator required
