Summary: 

Under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor and/or the Refrigeration Technician, is responsible to perform a variety of duties that includes the maintenance, repair, inspection, preventative maintenance, service and assisting in the installation of mechanical refrigeration, chillers, air conditioning, ventilation, heating equipment (including boilers), systems and components. Responds to HVAC/Refrigeration services calls on a daily basis supporting patient care. Performs routine Preventive Maintenance on HVAC equipment and systems including changing filters. Does necessary repairs to HVAC/Refrigeration and Boiler equipment as required.

Must be able to work various shifts and be available for after hour call-ins.

Job Responsibilities: 

1) Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment. Is responsible, working with Engineering Staff, to keep the preventive maintenance program current and up to date. Work with other trades personnel as required.

2) Maintain and repair refrigeration, chillers, and air conditioning equipment and systems including chillers, ice makers, freezers and refrigeration equipment.

3) Perform air conditioning shutdown procedures and necessary inspection and related procedures to prepare equipment and system for startup. Install and connect independently portable operated coolers and small refrigerators following manufacturer's specification.

4) Detect faulty operation of equipment and perform necessary adjustments and repairs. Read and interpret thermometers and gauges and make adjustments to maintain desired temperatures. Perform maintenance and calibration of temperature controls.

5) Inspect equipment and units, check for leaks and correct electrical connections and make necessary repairs. Assist in charging and recovering refrigerant from refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.

6) Prepare and maintain required records of time, materials and supplies. Order materials and supplies as needed. Prepare required records of time, materials and supplies used and requisition materials and/or equipment following prescribed procedures.

7) Trouble shoots and repairs low and high pressure boilers. Prepares low pressure boilers for inspection.

8) Work from work orders, specifications, drawings, prints and instructions.

9) Maintain work areas and equipment in safe, neat and orderly condition.

10) Perform brazing, soldering and similar procedures as required.

11) Uses Lockout Tagout when working on HVAC related equipment.

12) Be able to operate the Energy Management System including making changes, diagnosing problems, and corrections to maintain required set points.

13) Be able to diagnosis and trouble shoot pneumatic air controls system problems.

14) As required, responds to emergency calls. May have to re-prioritize work and work orders to accommodate emergency calls.

15) Demonstrates and models principals of service excellence in support of the patient experience and SPIRIT program.

16) Keeps superiors informed of all problems and issues.
