Summary: 

Responsible for safe transporting of cardiac monitored as well as unmonitored patients to and from tests and procedures from all units procedure areas or designated coverage area. Able to coordinate and organize transport of patients on time in a fast paced and demanding environment. Communicates effectively with all departments.

Responsible for attaching monitor, identifying cardiac rhythms during transport, identifying need to call RRT or Code, able to perform CPR. Responds to code blue calls within the area of responsibility to assist as directed. Contributes to the overall orderliness and cleanliness of the unit or designated coverage area.

At all times serves as a representative of excellent patient centered care at BMC and must be able to interact well with patients in a comforting manner while maintaining patient privacy and dignity during transport.

Job Responsibilities: 

1) Maintains patient safety, dignity, respect and privacy during transport

2) Transports patient to tests and procedures on time with out causing delays.

3) Attaches monitors appropriately, identifies dysthymias, initiates call for RRT and codes when necessary, performs CPR as required and utilize Automated External Defibrillator.

4) Coordinates transports of patients in a highly organized manner.

5) Communicates pertinent patient information with staff and physicians in all departments.

6) Maintains calm demeanor in a fast paced environment.

7) Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures, which includes the use of specialized equipment, quality control requirements, and preventive maintenance

8) Maintains safe operation of designated equipment and assists to ensure orderliness of the unit/ designated coverage area

9) Application of orthopedic equipment as appropriate within assigned coverage area.

10) Assists RN's with patient transfers, lifts and positioning. Safely transfers patients using mechanical lifts.

Required Work Experience: 

1) EMT with 6 months of experience required

Preferred Work Experience: 

1) EMT with 6 months of experience required

Skills and Competencies: 

1) Must be able to identify cardiac arrhythmias, complete all Web based safety training modules and other training as required
