The Consultant, Financial Analysis & Supply Chain is responsible for providing support to Baystate Health Management in the development of financial strategies to support strategic decision making. The incumbent works in close partnership with leaders in Administration, Finance, and from Service Lines in order to evaluate real estate, facility, equipment, and other capital acquisitions and potential financing options. The Consultant provides analytical support for potential acquisitions and joint ventures, and prepares financial and other analyses to assist management with decisions regarding utilization of Baystate Health resources. The incumbent supports Baystate Health Management by analyzing proposals for equipment, supplies, and services, and participates in contract reviews and negotiations with external parties. The incumbent plays an integral role in the implementation and maintenance of the new Contract Management System, serving as a primary liaison, educator, and trainer to colleagues throughout Baystate. The Consultant supports the Vice President of Finance, Healthcare Operations & Supply Chain, and the Director of Supply Chain with major analyses as requested, and assists with interactions among attorneys, bankers, developers, consultants and other external parties. The incumbent presents results of analyses to Baystate Management and various internal teams as requested. The Consultant plays a key role in global supply chain activities for all Baystate Health entities, and the position reports directly to the BH Director of Supply Chain. The incumbent assesses the effectiveness and efficiencies of supply chain processes, and assists in identifying the strategies and initiatives necessary for improving supply chain performance. The scope of the incumbent’s consulting responsibilities includes sourcing, negotiating, contracting, purchasing, logistics (warehousing & distribution), inventory management, strategic clinical value analysis (product standardization & utilization), and improved customer service. The Consultant collaborates with Baystate Health management in analyzing, negotiating, and contracting with external parties (consultants, vendors, and potential business partners) for the procurement of equipment, supplies, and services. The incumbent is responsible for preparing various analyses which provide a framework for evaluating new venture initiatives, real estate opportunities, financing options, etc., and the projected impact on Baystate Health’s financial condition. The position develops exceptional relationships with colleagues from BH Administration, Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain and demonstrates strong analytical skills while providing effective leadership on supply chain issues. The position assists in monitoring progress in achieving supply chain goals and objectives, mainly with respect to P&L performance, operating efficiencies, and improved customer service. The consultant is also responsible for working closely with the Supply Chain team to measure compliance with committed Premier (GPO) contracts, and enhancing GPO and other corporate vendor relationships. The incumbent serves as a key liaison between Baystate Managers, Service Line Leaders, Administrative Departments, and various Finance Departments. The consultant evaluates the viability of contracts, proposals, new services, and changes to existing services by coordinating and compiling information from external parties, and from BH clinical, financial, and administrative departments to prepare various analyses as requested. In order to analyze financial and operational implications and make appropriate recommendations, the consultant must remain abreast of current issues impacting healthcare. In addition, the incumbent continues to develop expertise in financial management techniques, and with specific issues related to capital acquisition, equipment leasing, real estate, facilities, and supply chain management. This will be accomplished through participation in internal and external professional development seminars and conferences.

Job Responsibilities: 

1) Consult with the Director of Supply Chain and actively participate with colleagues in the centralized approach to BH purchasing and contract negotiation.

2) Manage positive vendor relationships in order to maximize benefits due to Baystate Health.

3) Strategically negotiate contracts with approved vendors on behalf of or with all levels of Baystate Management. Evaluate proposals, provide financial analysis, and negotiate contract language to secure favorable pricing and other beneficial terms. Play an integral role in controlling BH expenditures via effective contract negotiation, implementation, and monitoring.

4) Evaluate capital acquisition scenarios, prepare lease vs. buy analyses, forecast return on investment and cash flow requirements, and evaluate financing options.

5) Work with BH Management on capital purchases, and assist in coordinating support required from other departments such as Engineering, Real Estate, Facilities, and Clinical Engineering.

6) Lead consulting efforts to develop, implement, and maintain processes and programs to minimize supply chain expense.

7) Consult with the Financial Analysis and Supply Chain teams in implementing, maintaining, and fully utilizing the Business Contract Management software application.

8) Maintain ongoing relations and effectively communicate with Baystate’s legal counsel as appropriate.

9) Collaborate with the Manager of Clinical Value Analysis to provide cost analyses, and provide recommendations on cost containment opportunities for Service Line Leaders and other Managers at BMC, FMC, and MLH. Evaluate opportunities to improve supply chain capabilities (i.e., processes, technology, organization and team performance, etc.), assist in the planning and execution phases, and assess all cost savings initiatives in conjunction with opportunities to improve service levels and efficiencies.

10) Monitor progress in achieving supply chain goals and objectives, primarily with respect to P&L performance, operating efficiencies, and improved customer service.

11) Assist in ensuring that BH entities actively participate in the GPO contracts that bring economic benefits to Baystate. Measure compliance with committed GPO contracts, and enhance GPO and other corporate vendor relationships.

12) Collaborate with all Baystate entities to assist in developing new or expanded program business plans. Prepare financial analyses, recommend improvements as appropriate, and communicate issues via presentations to Baystate Leadership.

13) Interact with external parties to develop financial projections and business plans for proposed joint ventures and other transactions. Perform due diligence reviews of potential business partners as needed.

14) Support the Vice President of Finance & Supply Chain and the Director of Supply Chain with interactions among investment bankers and other external parties to secure long-term financing for master facility planning initiatives.

15) Work collaboratively with BH colleagues from Accounting, Budget, Accounts Payable, Treasury Services, and other departments to develop assumptions and communicate financial issues discovered as a result of analyses. Provide leadership to team members, including review of assumptions and analyses, and provide suggestions and feedback on all projects. Assist the Director in counseling, training, and coaching assigned personnel to increase their level of understanding and performance.

16) Provide education to managers and staff on finance and/or supply chain related topics including purchasing vs. leasing alternatives, cost of patient care issues, underlying financial analysis assumptions, and other topics as deemed appropriate.

17) Participate in the preparation and implementation of the strategic plan and related tactical plans. Assist in the development and attainment of Baystate Health, Division, and Department financial goals and objectives.

18) Establish and maintain ongoing relations and communications with vendors and other appropriate representatives of the community.

19) Participate in various special projects and analyses as identified by the Director of Supply Chain.

20) Perform other related duties as assigned, observe all health and safety requirements, and adhere to Baystate Health and Department compliance policies and all applicable laws and regulations.

Required Work Experience: 

1) Eight plus years of related and progressive work experience in healthcare finance and/or business management required
