Baystate Health, western Massachusetts’s premier healthcare provider, and home to Baystate Medical Center (BMC), a Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence is looking for a Clinical Supervisor at BMC to join our team!

The Clinical Supervisor assumes accountability and responsibility for the management and supervision of the Flex Team, Float PCTs or CCTs, Constant Companions, Lift Team, House Orderlies and at times agency personnel. Hires, evaluates and performance manages the PCT/CCT float pool, Constant Companions, Lift Team and house orderlies and ensures all members are competent to fulfill their assigned duties and responsibilities. Reviews and intervenes in critical staffing situations and approves overtime and extra shift bonus incentives as required.

Identifies trends or changes that may affect staffing resources, and assists in developing strategies to address these changes in demand. Oversees assigned Clinical Resource departmental budget. Provides input to director and unit managers in the development and implementation of the budgets. Exercises cost containment practices and educates staff in such practices. Provides input into Capital Expenditure Requests. Participates in achievement of annual Division of Nursing goals by working on committees and projects.

Coordinates the allocation of nursing staff resources on assigned shifts. Works collaboratively with Patient Placement Case Manager/Officer to facilitate patient flow ensuring staffing resources are readily available to meet patient care needs utilizing critical thinking and high level decision-making processes. Evaluates the operational feasibility and efficacy of current and proposed staffing models and matrixes, providing analysis and recommendations.

During off business hours the Clinical Supervisor has an expanded role as the on-site leadership presence charged with the responsibility to interpret and reinforce system policies for nursing staff and/or other individuals. Serve as liaison between clinical staff and other departments, physicians, families and community resources. Investigate crisis situations on campus and follow up with appropriate action for correction, prevention and/or appropriate

Job Responsibilities: 

1) Acts as the Clinical Resource Officer and collaborates closely with patient placement team and Charge RNs to develop comprehensive plans to respond timely to fluctuations in patient volumes.

2) Manages an assigned flex team of PCTs, Orderlies and/or Constant Companions as well as overseeing hiring, performance management, staff development and the budget management for assigned team.

4) Interprets and clarifies medical center policies for all staff. Services as liason between nursing staff and other departments, physicians, families and community resources. Investigates crisis situations on assigned untils and follows up with appropriate action for correction and/or prevention.

5) Deploys flex team, orderlies and constant companions. Determines and implements redeployment (floating) of staff to assure appropriate coverage for all units.

6) Creates an environment that promotes diversity and inclusion.

7) Participates in leadership activities for the PCS division.

8) Effectively collaborate with patient placement personnel to maximum staffing resources.

9) Effectively copes with pressure and tension staying focused with emergency situations.


  • Successfully passed Board of Registration in Nursing Examination and licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR certification required.
  • Experience: 5 years inpatient nursing practice and 2 years of leadership (charge nurse or supervisor experience will be considered)
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree Required
